Bellbrook is a Gum Lands village strung along the Humming Creek, named for the way it chimes over the stones. Five days ago the creek began to fail. Now it barely trickles. The waterwheel has stopped, the fish have gone, the vegetable terraces are cracking, and the Harvest Moon Festival, when every family fills the common store for winter, is only days away.
